Acupuncture is the ancient Chinese practice of inserting thin needles at specific locations in the body to treat pain. Chinese medicine divides the body into meridians, and acupuncture helps the flow of energy through these meridians to decrease pain. In addition, localized endorphins are released at the needle site causing an almost immediate decrease in pain. Acupuncture is painless, as the needles cannot be felt. Acupuncture treats each illness in conjunction with the rest of the body, giving an added benefit of treating secondary ailments in addition to primary area of concern.

During your consultation, the acupuncturist will review your medical history in detail to have an in depth understand of your pain. During the treatment itself, you will lay either face up or down and have 5 to 10 thin needles inserted at targeted areas. The insertion process is pain free, and feels nothing like a typical injection. Once the needles are in, you’ll feel immediate relaxation and will lay still for 30-40 minutes. Normally 12 treatments are recommended for long term improvement, either weekly or biweekly.
